Character
Name: Page
Series: Fable III
Timeline: Just after Logan is taken away for judgement, before the player character becomes King/Queen.
Canon Resource Links: Here! I will be using that back story from the Blood Ties novels in her characterisation.
Personality:
If you'd like a girl to take your revolution,
Having lived a life dominated by poverty, Page has a unique understanding of just what the people of Albion are going through under the current King's rule. She found herself homeless at eleven, forced to live in the factories in which she had to work to survive. However, Page would search for ripped pages of books in the docks, drying them out and reading them by candlelight in her limited downtime. It was this habit that earned her the nickname 'Page'. Her real name is either forgotten, or she simply chooses not to use it any more.
She manages to escape life in the factories and finds herself amongst monks who also adore books, and teach her philosophy and how to fight. Things are quite pleasant until King Logan has the monastery burned down, leaving Page the only survivor of the massacre. Her life experiences may have broken a lesser person but Page is resilient and determined, and instead channels her frustration with her circumstances into a furious desire to initiate change in the status quo. She forms the Resistance movement against Logan, setting up base in Bowerstone, the capitol city of Albion and the home of the current ruler.
Due to her activities with the Resistance, Page is a wanted criminal forced to live in the sewers. Her work, however, fills her with a sense of pride; she's framed her wanted poster and hung it near her bed. It's a source of inspiration for her, for those days where everything seems hopeless and she feels that they'll fail in the face of the sheer force of Logan's armies. While she may occasionally harbour thoughts of defeat, Page will never give up in her quest to save the people of Albion. The poster is a sign that they are making a difference and their work has been noticed. Giving up is not an option, for if they don't save the people, who will?
This is a perfect example of Page's rather realistic brand of idealism, as contradictory as that may sound. She recognizes that this is not a simple task, and the easy thing to do would be to give up and just accept that things will never change, but she genuinely believes that she and her band of rebels possess the potential to overthrow Logan and introduce a fairer system for Albion. Page is so focused on her goal that she devotes her entire life to it, and gives all of herself in the battle to liberate the poorer people of Albion.
Strategy is another one of Page's talents, and her preferred plan usually involves stealth at the beginning, and an explosive conclusion; this became all too literal when she sneaks bombs in the ships belonging to the owner of Bowerstone Industrial, Reaver, with rather positive results (just not for the ships). She also utilises a similar technique when attempting to rescue some of her men from Reaver's mansion; her and the hero sneak into one of his parties, but Page makes it very clear that she intends to engage Reaver in person, rather than trying to spirit her men out of his mansion.
Page has a lot of hatred for Reaver. To her, Reaver represents everything she hates about the upper classes; he's rich and spoiled, he's cruel and sadistic, and he's throwing lavish parties every week when the people operating his factories are dying of starvation in the streets. She even finds it much easier to commit murder when she imagines her target having Reaver's face. Needless to say, she isn't fond. The fact that he's killed all the men she's come to rescue doesn't earn him any brownie points either.
The relationship between the pair doesn't improve much once the Hero becomes the monarch. Reaver directly opposes every proposition and idea Page has for improvements in Bowerstone, whether it's wanting to convert the factories to schools and end child labour (Reaver, obviously, feels differently) or trying to convince the King/Queen to restore the homeless shelter (and not turn it into a brothel, as someone suggests), Reaver acts as Page's foil throughout the entire affair. Page is consistently motivated by her idea of what will help the people the most, and never shies away from this mentality, expressing nothing but anger if the monarch chooses to agree with Reaver. She's furiously stubborn and set in her ideals, but will only turn against the Hero if they don't choose to abolish child labour; the cause closest to her heart. Once she has that, all the other issues simply become other things she needs to work on. She will initiate change, even if it takes her longer than she first thought.
Despite her rather sharp manner of speaking and her furious fastidiousness when it comes to her revolution, if you make the effort to get to know her Page reveals that she's quite a kind-hearted girl. When the revolution has been completed and Logan is awaiting trial, she is the only one who wants the Hero to spare him. She's anxious that the Hero doesn't allow themselves to sink to Logan's level; they're a new monarch for a new age, and she doesn't want to start the new age with violence and petty revenge. Even so, directly trying to prevent Logan's execution is a testament to her kindness, considering the fact that he's been either directly or indirectly responsible for a hell of a lot of her personal suffering, not to mention that of the people he used to rule. Page also saves the life of the Hero during their mission in Reaver's mansion purely on instinct, and even offers a compliment on their eyes before they go in.
Page is also somewhat of an artistic soul who adores the written word; books are both a tool for her work and a way she can escape from the dismal situations she finds herself in, and she treasures them as one would a precious gem or a priceless piece of jewelry. To her, books are treasures. Having experienced a childhood in which she was satisfied with just random pages, she wants to be able to spread her love of books to the current group of children inhabiting the city, and give them a chance to learn things she never thought she'd have the chance to experience.
Overall, Page represents hope for a kingdom of people that have very little remaining, demonstrates a remarkable fighting spirit and refuses to let her dismal circumstances get her down, or justify the raising of a white flag. She will fight for her ideals and goals until she takes her last breath, no matter what happens to her.
Even if transportation to a world full of wacky creatures isn't exactly what she's expecting.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Selfless - Everything Page does is for the benefit of other people rather than herself; her main aim is to free the people of the kingdom from forced labour and poverty. Benefits for herself don't really come into her mentality at all, and even once the game is concluded, you can find her down in Bowerstone Industrial, working on fixing one thing or another.
+Kindhearted - Page does everything she can to prevent the city's children being forced to work in the factories and experience a childhood like the one she had. She wants them to be educated and provided with the oppurtunity to grow and live their lives the way they want. She is also the only person who wants the tyrant King Logan spared from execution; even though her main motivation is to ensure the new ruler shows that they are different from him, it's still a very kind thing to do considering all the cruelty he's inflicted on the very people she's fighting for. She also saves the life of the Hero by shooting a creature about to attack them, despite only knowing the Hero for a short amount of time and still not being sure whether or not they are a spy.
+Focused - Her entire life revolves around the resistance and her goal regarding overthrowing Logan and the current laws in Albion, to the point where even those not under her command come to her for a plan and strategy, since chances are she's got something worked out, and if not, she'll think of something rather quickly.
+/-Doesn't trust easily - While lacking trust can be a negative thing, in Page's position it's important that she doesn't just trust any old person that approachs the resistance. It's in the eye of the beholder.
+/-Stubborn - Again, stubbornness isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on the intensity of it. Page's dedication to her way of thinking can either be seen as admirably focused or aggressively pigheaded.
-Sharp - Page isn't one for small talk and dislikes wasting time on idle conversation. She also tends to be sarcastic and almost needlessly nasty when she's not interested in what the other person is saying, which doesn't make the most pleasant person to talk to.
-Workaholic - Even though her focus on her work is admirable, saying that Page's entire life revolves around the resistance and her goal isn't an exagguration. Everything she does is dedicated to her work, and having that stripped away from her will disorientate her quite badly, until she finds something else to focus on.
-Gruff - When you first meet Page she can come across as overly harsh or serious, and won't make that good of a first impression, particularly if she's working on something or you strike her as a threat to her revolution. However, as you get to know her she reveals that she's actually quite capable of being a pleasant person to be around, and will even compliment you quite often if she feels you deserve it.

[[The feed opens to an image of a Kirlia, waving at the camera, before he's joined by his trainer, who is holding a small book. Placing her free hand on her hip, she waves it at the camera with a frustrated look on her face.]]
Is there any sort of way to power these creatures up a little more? Give them weapons of some kind? I've gone through this entire book and ended up entirely nowhere.
[[Her Kirlia giggles at her, and she rolls her eyes, gently batting the Pokemon over the head. He responds in kind, returning blows using his psychic powers. For a moment, the pair have a quick slapfight, before conveniently remembering that the camera is still on. Clearing her throat, Page continues.]]
I know this place has a thing against traditional sorts of weapons, but surely there's something? I never thought I'd miss the feeling of a pistol in my hand. Typical; I end up somewhere peaceful and all I want is the ability to fight.
[[She looks almost wistful for a moment, staring off to the side as she thinks.]]
I guess some things never ch-HEY!
[[Page is quickly snapped out of her trance by the book whacking her on the back of the head, her Kirlia continuing to giggle and point in the background.]]
What have I told you about my books? Be gentle!
[[Picking up said book and delicately brushing dirt off the cover, Page moves to chase her Kirlia, but not before remembering to cut the feed at the last minute.]]
Third Person Sample: Page felt very comfortable in Ecruteak City. It was less....brutally modern than the others, more rustic. As much as it fascinated her to be able to sample such futuristic technology, it was here that she felt most at peace. Seated underneath the golden trees near the Bell Tower, she propped herself up against one of the more accommodating tree trunks and opened her book, sliding her fingers over the pages.
The machines and cities were intriguing, to be sure, but it was the stories of Johto that truly captured her interest. As soon as she'd realised she had money left over after buying necessities, she'd bought a small book of myths on a whim. It was on sale, so...surely it wouldn't be too much of an excess? It...well. It had been a while since she'd spoiled herself in any way, and she'd found it so hard to resist the brightly coloured creatures decorating the cover. So she'd grabbed it quickly, taking it to the cashier before she had a chance to talk herself out of it.
She found she still thought of herself as a member of the Resistance, so it was...very odd to be able to wander through the streets without being on alert for soldiers. One policeman had even smiled and tipped his hat to her, and she felt slightly ashamed at how she'd only been able to freeze, unsure whether to reach for her gun or simply flee. Not that reaching for her gun would have helped much; Johto had seen to that. It made her very uncomfortable to be unarmed like that. It was akin to a very cold sort of nakedness, a vulnerability. But she was growing accustomed to it, slowly.
Maybe she should take this as a sign to relax a little. Hm.
Regardless, she felt more at peace in this beautiful grotto than she had in years, and since time had stopped in Albion...perhaps she deserved a break. Maybe. As she pondered her situation, a golden leaf draped itself across the pages of her book, and she smiled to herself, bringing it to her lips and blowing it away. Life was full of such...simple pleasures.
Perhaps it was time she rediscovered them.
